Government unveils syllabus for junior secondary schools

Government has announced introduction of new syllabus for learners transitioning to Junior Secondary Schools in January 2023.

Through a joint statement from Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development(KICD) and Competition Authority of Kenya(CAK) revealed the importance of the new syllabus on the emerging market trends.

“Concept relating to business studies and home science will be effective on 23rd January, when schools reopen,” read the statement.

The same concept will be taught to at least 20 subjects at grade eight and nine.

“A total of 1.2 million learners in Junior Secondary School will benefit from the program,” read the part.

Senior level

Furthermore, the concept will be extended to over 30 subjects at the Senior Secondary level in grades 10, 11, and 12.

The partnership is to prepare young learners on consumer related choices and inform them on digital financial services.

“Consumer-related issues affect us all irrespective of age and one should have the capacity to make a choice when faced with financial challenges due to increased competition and market complexities,”CAK director general Wang’ombe Kariuki stated.

Students will be enlightened on the role of business studies and have an opportunity to learn how market trends works which will safeguard them from exploitation.

The course will also be taught practically through drama, song and dance to be impactful.
