Why you will have to use all your Safaricom bonga points before January

Safaricom customers may have to use all their bonga points before the new year.

This is after the telecommunication company introduced an expiry date for bonga points in a bid to encourage redemption.

Safaricom said the three year expiry date programme which will start in January 2023 is aimed at unlocking the underlying revenue which has accumulated over the years.

Currently unreedemed points stands at Sh 4.5 billion up from Sh 2.2 billion recorded during the same period in 2015.

Customers will now have up to three years to redeem their bonga points.

“Effective 1st January 2023, all bonga points older than three years will expire and will be unavailable for redemption,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.

The organization have backed up their decision with saying that it was a business move that will encourage regular redemption of the bonga points.

The programme enabled customers to redeem points for airtime, minutes, bundles and even pay for merchant services like mobile phones.
