Inside Governor Oparanya’s last days in office

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has commissioned the sixth phase of the County Shelter Improvement Programme.

The Sh320 million project started in 2015 with an aim of uplifting the living standards of the vulnerable members of the community.

Oparanya who is serving his last term in office revealed that the project has seen the construction of 2,500 houses the 12 sub-counties. 

“We have so far donated 5,000 blankets and 2,500 mattresses to beneficiaries of the houses,” he said.

“This year we have built 720 houses in 12 wards. The project is ongoing and we target to reach the majority members of our community,” furthered the Governor.

He also donated wheelchairs, crutches, and listening aids among others to the people living with disabilities.

The Governor noted that he will set aside a budget for the PWD’s before he leaves office to help improve their living standards.

“We will continue to help disabled persons with money to venture into business and also educate their children in Special schools so as to get them out of poverty,” he added.
