At least 26 political parties in the Azimio Coalition have endorsed ODM leader Raila Odinga as the coalition’s presidential flagbearer.

The endorsement at Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) on Saturday means Raila’s name will be in the ballot on August 9.

West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo who is also the Kenya Union Party leader was the proposer for the motion.

Mombasa County Woman Representative Mishi Mboko seconded the proposal which was unanimously accepted by the delegates.

Raila accepted the endorsement, terming the move an unlikely occurance in the history of the country’s politics, especially following the past deeply rooted differences between some of the Azimio member parties.

Raila said the move comes with the responsibility to deliver victory for the Azimio.

The endorsement marks the beginning of rallies to drum up support for the Azimio candidate.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said the agreement that brought together the Azimio parties will all be represented in Raila’s government come August 9.

“We shall move through the country to spread the gospel of love and development,” he said.
