This video on different social media platforms with a background of people chanting SIFUNA! SIFUNA! while the president is exiting the stage in Eldoret after Mashujaa day celebration is altered.
Yesterday, October 20th 2026, Kenyans from all walks of life poured into the Kipchoge Keino stadium where the Mashujaa Day celebrations were held presided by present William Samoei Ruto.
The video under scrutiny is captioned in swahili “Watu wa Eldoret mko na madharau sana and I love it😂🤣
Majamaa walingoja Ruto anaingia pale Kipchoge Keino Stadium wakaanza kuchant jina ya Omwami Sifuna 😂😂” as seen in the below screenshot.
Translate loosely to “ the people of Eldoret are so arrogant and I love it!
These people waited until president Ruto entered Kipchoge Keino stadium and started chanting the name of Sifuna.”
In the video, people are heard chanting the name of Sifuna who is believed to be a presidential hopeful. Until now, Sifuna has not made his intentions clear that he will be vying for presidency in the upcoming general elections 2027.

But was this what really happened at Kipchoge Keino stadium?
A team of Lake Region Bulletin fact-checkers set out to uncover the truth about the video.
While the caption of the video indicates that the chants were made when the president had entered the stadium, the video accompanying the caption shows President Ruto leaving the stadium.
A key word search on “video of President William Ruto entering Kipchoge Keino stadium directs us to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation youtube live coverage of the president’s entourage. The video is titled :
“President Ruto arrives at Kipchoge Keino Stadium for 63rd Mashujaa Day Celebrations”
In the video, no one is heard chanting the name of the Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna.
A further keyword search on a video of the president exiting the stadium after the celebrations directs us to a youtube video by Mutembei TV. The video titled “
Watch How Ruto Motorcade Made Exit after His Last Mashujaa Day as President in Kipchoge Keino!” shows the tail end of the Mashujaa Day celebrations. The president, the first lady and other dignitaries are seen exiting the podium from 00:00:53 to 00:01:44 minutes. In the video, the master of ceremony is heard speaking in the background with a kalenjin dialect music playing in the background.
There are no chants of Sifuna.
To establish where the chants might have come from, we did a key word search on videos of Kenyans chanting the name Sifuna.
While there has been a number of times the public chanted SIFUNA! SIFUNA! Including during the recent commemoration of 1 year after Raila Amollo Odinga died, in Bungoma during a burial , AFC Leopards once after winning a match.hese chants were not witnessed during the Mashujaa day celebration at Kichoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.
The claim therefore is false and the sound of the video altered.
