Deputy President William Ruto has had a round one win in the race to presidency.

Ruto emerged as the only qualified contestant for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party presidential ticket in the first set of the interviews which had three contestants.

Ruto, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agricultural and Technology (JKUAT) Tracy Wanjiru and Orina Nyakwama on Saturday attended the party’s interview and presidential aspirants’ verification on Saturday.

However, Wanjiru and Orina were disqualified for lack of nomination fees and academic papers.

This leaves Ruto as the only qualified contestant to face the interviews for the party ticket.

The interview process is aimed at checking if the contestants meet the eligibility criteria for the presidential candidates.

The National Delegates Conference on Tuesday next week is expected to endorse Ruto’s candidature.
