UDA and ANC are just friends, don’t read too much, says Muthama

United Democratic Movement (UDA) and Amani National Congress (ANC) are just friends.

Johnstone Muthama, the UDA National Chairman has said the two outfits do not have any formal agreement ahead of August 9, general election.

Muthama’s comments came following media reports which leaked a possible MoU between the two parties following the declaration of a merger by their leaders William Ruto and Musalia Mudavadi, and FORD Kenya’s Moses Wetangula.

Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, Muthama said that the three parties only exist as ‘friends’ who have come together to  make the country a better place and there has not been any formal agreement to make a coalition.

“As far as we are concerned, Ruto is the presidential candidate for UDA and Musalia Mudavadi is the presidential candidate for ANC, in other words we are independent but talking as friends,” said Muthama.

According to Muthama, if the polls were to be held today, Ruto would fly the UDA  ticket and Mudavadi would be the presidential candidate for ANC.

The former Machakos Senator said that they are yet to make the terms on who will fly the coalitions ticket if in any case they make one.

“Nothing has changed pending discussions in which we will agree on who will be the coalition candidate,” he proceeded.

Muthama denied claims of power sharing agreements that have been outlined by several individuals saying that the individuals are zoning the country.

Both UDA, ANC  and  FORD Kenya have been holding joint campaign rallies, raising speculations of a coalition termed as Kenya Kwanza.
