Mwendwa who was serving his second term had been kicked out following investigation into the federation finance.

In a letter dated 8th September, Mwendwa informed FIFA President Giani that he has assumed his role after the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has dropped charges levelled against him.

The Charges

He had been charged in court with four counts of fraud and other bail terms including depositing his passport in court, not accessing the FKF office and not offering media interviews in relation to the case.

“Following the withdrawal of charges by the Directorate of Public Prosecution on July 8, 2022, I hereby wish to inform your good office that I have resumed my duties as the FKF president, with immediate effect,” read the letter in part.

On 14th October 2021, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed ordered investigations into the federation’s finances which led to a decision to transfer the functions of FKF President to his deputy Doris Petra.

“Following the ongoing case, I have today in accordance to the constitution asked my vice president madam Doris Petra to assume all functions of the president,” said Mwendwa.

Fifa Ban

Following the decision, FIFA suspended football operations, barring Kenya from participating in regional and international competitions.

The football governing body told the government to address the issue for them to lift the ban.
