Farmers across the country have a reason to smile following the government announcement to subsidize the prices of fertilisers.

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced an allocation of Sh5. 7 billion to subsidize up to 114, 000 tons of fertiliser.

Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya said DAP fertilizer will retail at Sh2, 800, CAN at Sh1, 850, UREA at Sh2, 700, and NPK at Sh3, 000.

On the other hand, MOP will cost Sh2, 500 and Sulphate Ammonia drops to Sh2, 500.

Most of the fertilisers had been retailing at as high as Sh7,000 for a 50-kg bag.

The drop in the prices come following a two-year partnership deal between the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and the government to have the prices reduced.

Munya said the new fertiliser prices will take effect on April 2, 2022.
