Principal Secretary for Social Protection Nelson Marwa has assured Migori residents of restoring sanity in the boda boda sector in the county.
Speaking during the launch of the boda boda registration process in Migori, Marwa asked riders to turn up in large numbers and take advantage of the free registration window.
The PS noted that the industry supports economic development as it offers employment for various youths in the country.
“The boda boda industry plays a key role in the economic development of the nation and it is very important for the sector to be regulated to realize economic empowerment,” he said.
The PS also assured riders that the exercise will be taken to all sub-county headquarters in the county to ease the process.
“The main aim of the government is to offer service to its citizens and that by bringing it nearer. We will ensure that our people are registered to the last man by taking it to all the sub counties,” said Marwa.
The 60 day exercise that kicked off on March 28, will see all riders across the country registered for free.
Those who will be registered after the 60-day window will be expected to pay Sh5, 800 for registration.
