Former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has asked Kisumu residents to elect leaders who have been tried and tested.

Ruth who is eying Kisumu County Woman Representative seat said she is not aligned to any of the political factions which have emerged in the county ahead of ODM primaries.

Her sentiments come following reports that she was aligned to ‘Team Unbwogable’ which is vouching for Ken Obura’s gubernatorial candidature.

Obura who resigned from his position as the Chief Administrative Secretary last month has teamed up with former Governor Jack Ranguma, Senator Fred Outa and former Speaker Onyango Oloo to dislodge Nyong’o.

The incumbent has also attracted former Education Assistant Minister Prof Ayiecho Olweny, MPs; Aduma Owuor (Nyakach), Dr James Nyikal (Seme) and Fred Ouda (Kisumu Central).

Free and fair primaries

But Ruth who has been calling for free and fair party primaries said she will support the party’s candidates during the August polls.

“I am deep in ODM and if the party settles on Anyang’ Nyong’o to fly the gubernatorial ticket, then that is the route I will follow,” said Ruth.

She said the voters know very well members of the ODM party, and that they should come out and pick those who deserve elective seats.

“Some just registered yesterday, while others just retired recently and then come to join the party, while some of us have dedicated all we have for the party,” she said.

Ruth has lately hit the ground mobilizing voters and party delegates to support her bid.

“But even if I do not get elected, I will remain in ODM as I have done before,” she added.
