Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o has suspended Azimio demonstrations in the area.
Instead, Nyong’o has directed those supporting the protestors to join the weekly protests in Nairobi.
In public notice signed by the Governor on Tuesday, March 29, Nyong’o noted that Kisumu residents have played their part in the demos, and their message is home.
That all public demonstrations within Kisumu County have from today been suspended indefinitely so that we can join demonstrations in Nairobi,

“We have delivered the message and expressed our resolve to stand with the Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Amolo Odinga in his quest for justice,” read the statement in part.
Nyong’o noted that his move came following what he termed as ‘detailed consultations with the Azimio National leadership and the County Executive Committee (the cabinet).’
“That all public demonstrations within Kisumu County have from today been suspended indefinitely so that we can join demonstrations in Nairobi,” stated the Governor.
He reiterated that the people of Kisumu remain committed to the aspirations of Azimio la Umoja and its campaigns for a better Kenya.
“I would like to appeal to the people of Kisumu to work in tandem with law enforcement officers to maintain peace and security in our county,” he added.
Kisumu has already spoken
Nyong’o’s move comes a day before the Thursday demonstrations.
Local leaders in the county have been leading the demonstrations in Kisumu, paralising activities in the area.
Nyong’o had on Monday led the demonstrations, where he urged demonstrators to ensure peaceful match.
Azimio leadership has scheduled weekly demonstrations every Monday and Thursdays to push for their demands to President William Ruto’s government.

Some of the demands include reducing the cost of living, opening of the 2022 presidential result transmission servers, and reconstitution of the panel appointed by President Ruto to pick IEBC commissioners.
