Kisumu streets to be closed for a week long Christmas festival

Two major streets in Kisumu will be closed for 10 days to allow residents to participate in a street festival.

The city management has organized a street Christmas party for residents which will start from 23rd December to 2nd January 2023.

Through a notice on Thursday 22nd the city management said that the festival was aimed at celebrating cultural diversity and providing a networking platform for businesses.

The streets

In the notice by the City Manager Abala Wanga both Oginga Odinga street and Jomo Kenyatta Avenue will be closed during the event.

“The roads will be partially closed and traffic marshal shall be available to direct motorists on alternative routes,” said Wanga.

Among the activities to be held during the festival include children fun fair, exhibitions, lighting Governor’s tree and general entertainment by artists.

A similar festival was held for a day during last year’s Christmas celebrations.

The streets affected included Nyerere Road, Ondiek Highway, Gumbi Road, Mosque Road, Achieng’ Oneko Road, Awuor Otieno Road, Omolo Ogar Road, Ang’awa Avenue, and the Oginga Odinga Street.

The programme for the celebrations will be availed on Friday.
