Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has defended former Kakamega Governor Wyclife Oparanya after claims that he had quit ODM.
Nyong’o’s sentiments come barely a day after the ODM Deputy party leader said he has no business with opposition leader Raila Odinga again.
Through a press statement on Wednesday, Nyong’o maintained that Oparanya is still in ODM despite the recent statements in the media.

“I wish to confirm that my brother Oparanya is in ODM, and for that matter in the AZIMIO movement, not for the material comfort that but for commitment for the liberation of this nation of bad governance,” read the statement in part.
Nyong’o said that the immediate former governor is not in the party for material support and will not join the government.
“There is no way, therefore, that Oparanya will join the Kenya Kwanza government,” affirmed Nyong’o.

On Tuesday, November 22, while addressing mourners at Ichinga village Mumias East sub-county during the funeral of Nominated MCA Phaustine Welimo, Oparanya said he has chosen a new path and that he would not support Raila again.
He said he will focus on rallying for the unity of the Luyha community.
“I am offering myself from now to lead the unity drive of our people. I am done with Raila and even if he bad-mouths me, God forbid, he knows, he will not be forgiven,” he said.
Oparanya, who led the Azimio presidential campaigns in Western Kenya, accused Raila of political betrayal.
He said his community has not been counted in the sharing of minority slots in Parliament. after they did not get a slot in the East African Legislative Assembly.
“I was pushing for Kizito Justus to go to EA LA but MPs were grumbling that Kizito had no money. I was wondering that MPs must also be bribed to vote,” he said
