Why Oparanya decided to cut ties with Raila after 25 years of loyalty

Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has cut ties with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The ODM Deputy Party leader has chosen a new path and has maintained that he would not support Raila again.

In his new quest Oparanya said he will focus on rallying for the unity of the Luyha community.

The result of that vote is that all other big tribes but the Luhya sent an MP to EALA

“I am offering myself from now to lead the unity drive of our people. I am done with Raila and even if he bad-mouths me, God forbid, he knows, he will not be forgiven,” he said.

Oparanya made the remarks on Tuesday, November 22, when he addressed mourners at Ichinga village Mumias East sub-county during the funeral of Nominated MCA Phaustine Welimo.

I was pushing for Justus Kizito (former MP Shinyalu) to go to EALA, but MPs were grumbling that Kizito had no money. So I was wondering that MPs must also be bribed to vote

Broken Loyalty

After supporting his boss five times in vain, Oparanya said the region’s support and endorsement of Raila for decades has not counted in the sharing of election spoils.

Oparanya faulted Odinga with how the nominations to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) were conducted and faulted allegedly sacrificing merit for bribes.

“The result of that vote is that all other big tribes but the Luhya sent an MP to EALA,” he said.

“I was pushing for Justus Kizito (former MP Shinyalu) to go to EALA, but MPs were grumbling that Kizito had no money. So I was wondering that MPs must also be bribed to vote,” he furthered.

He also accused Raila of excluding the community from the Parliamentary Service Commission as well as minority leadership positions.
