Nandi County security officials have launched a new approach in battling runaway crime in the area.

The initiative dubbed “Bottom Up” involves security agencies circulating their contacts to the residents to ensure close collaboration.

County Commissioner Herman Sambi says the move will facilitate sharing of information relating to criminal activities in the area.

Our expectation in this model will help get rid of lawlessness, as well as reduce cases of crime in the county, and make our work easier and better

In the project, every resident will have contacts of the County Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners , Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, village elders and the nyumba kumi officials.

“Our expectation in this model will help get rid of lawlessness, as well as reduce cases of crime in the county, and make our work easier and better,” said Sambi.

Reprieve for residents

Area residents have embraced the move, saying it will close the gap which has existed between the security agencies and the residents.

“We have had difficulties in the past trying to report security issues to the relevant authorities. This new model will drastically reduce and combat crime in our county,” said Mathew Kemei, a barber at Kaptumo Shopping Centre.

He added: “It is inclusive and we can be able to share freely and report incidences of insecurity within a very short time before they even happen or escalate.”

Mr Sambi said the security officials will also share social media platforms, such as WhatsApp groups with the residents.
