Atwoli makes a U-turn, says he will work with President Ruto

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli now says he will work with President William Ruto.

In a press statement dated 14th September, the COTU boss who has been an ardent supporter of the Azimio coalition took to his twitter page to officially congratulate Ruto as he assumes office.

“COTU joins Kenyans in celebrating and congratulating His Excellency President William Ruto and his Deputy Gachagua on their inauguration,” read the statement in part.

Atwoli further lauded the President’s promise to work with all Kenyans in building a united and prosperous country.

Unity Call

He further said that COTU is ready to work with Ruto’s government to promote unity, rights and welfare of Kenyan workers.

“As it has been our tradition, COTU(K) remains ready to work with the administration of President William Ruto,” said Atwoli.

The COTU SG emphasized that the President’s inauguration speech was full of reconciliation and hope for Kenyans from all political divides.

He went ahead to state, “We associate ourselves with his resolution and assurance of working with all Kenyans.” 

Atwoli also urged the workers to get back to work noting that it is the workers who suffer most whenever there is a crisis

“As workers, we support the President’s call for unity and reconciliation and we call upon other Kenyans of goodwill to have all hands-on deck,” a part of the statement reads.

He also urged the government to unite the country and put in place mechanisms to spur economic growth that will improve the conditions of workers.
