Education CS George Magoha has shed light on the fears over the scrapping of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) should President-elect William Ruto be sworn into office.

According to Magoha many students have already adopted the new curriculum and scraping it is impossible.

The CS said that given the amount of money invested in the project it would be practically impossible to do away with the new curriculum.

“There is never a vacuum in government and with 10 million children under CBC, no government is even going to consider removing the curriculum. They will basically just try to improve it by trying to make it better in certain aspects,” said Magoha.

During his campaigns Ruto noted that the new curriculum would be reviewed should he take over power.

The Kenya Kwanza candidate said that outstanding issues raised by various stakeholders needed to be addressed.

The CS however said that transition of Grade Six students to junior secondary will be smooth following the completion of teachers’ training.

“We have trained Grade 7 and 8 teachers. Grade 9 students will be trained in January 2023 by the incoming government,” the CS.

He further revealed that the Ministry was steering the completion of CBC by the beginning of January 2023.

The funds were part of the Sh.544.4 billion allocated to the Education Ministry.
