Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o together with Dr Matthew Ochieng’ Owili have officially been sworn in into office as Kisumu Governor and Deputy Governor.

In his speech the second-term governor exuded confidence in improving service delivery.

“I feel indebted to the members of my executive and all the employees of the County Government of Kisumu. You are a great a team. With your continued support and commitment, I’m looking forward to a great second term,” said Nyong’o.

Nyong’o also lamented over the country’s electoral system citing the sanctity of the vote in a democratic system as a challenge in the polls.

Call for Justice

The Governor called for justice at the Supreme Court following the petition of Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate seeking to overturn Ruto’s win.

I feel indebted to the members of my executive and all the employees of the County Government of Kisumu. You are a great a team. With your continued support and commitment, I’m looking forward to a great second term

“For how long shall we continue like this over our beloved nation of Kenya. Five years ago when Chief Justice Maraga annulled presidential election, our leaders decided that it was futile to go back to the people with the same IEBC, the same Chairman Chebukati, the same government, which was fuming and angry against the court. The situation has not changed,” he said.

Nyong’o further said that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati should not have been allowed to conduct another election following the Supreme Court judgement in 2017.

All the 45 Governors-Elect took oath of office on Thursday, ten days since their election on August 9, 2022 while elections in Kakamega and Mombasa were postponed to Monday over a ballot papers mix-up.
