Former commissioner of lands Wilson Gachanja, former coast province lands officer Zablon Mabeya and the physical planner Jabu Salim have been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The three have been linked to illegal awarding of public land to a private company.

The piece of land located at Diani beach was set aside as a road reserve by the government.

We are aware of government officials who, in a bid to profit from the little time remaining to the election, are engaging in unlawful awarding of procurements among other corrupt deals

Twalib Mbarak

Speaking to the media in Mombasa during a press briefing, the EACC regional officer Twalib Mbarak said the matter was investigated and presented before the DPP which gave the order for the arrest of the three for abuse of office.

He added that the three had used their office to forge papers and sell the land, also stating that such cases are rampant especially since a sitting government is soon coming to an end.

He said: “We are aware of government officials who, in a bid to profit from the little time remaining to the election, are engaging in unlawful awarding of procurements among other corrupt deals.”

Mbarak warned that the commission is still the same and will hunt such unscrupulous individuals.

The three have been flown to Mombasa County and will be arraigned in court.
