Musician Kevin Kioko popularly known as Bahati has announced that he will be vying for the Mathare parliamentary seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Speaking at the Jubilee headquarters on Friday where he was received by the party officials, the singer cited his reasons for the calling.

“Our biggest challenge as the people of Mathare is that we have never received a leader who was born and raised in Mathare,” he said.

“We have been electing leaders but it’s now time for the people to get a son who was born and raised in Mathare and understands their problems,” he furthered.

Bahati noted that he has been receiving calls from the residents urging him to rise to the challenge.

“We have been crying over the same issues over and over again because we rely on visitors who don’t know the struggles we go through,” he stated.

He also added that he will make sure the children in Mathare would not undergo the same problems he went through.

This move comes after the singer released a tune christened ‘Fire’ with ODM party leader Raila Odinga to woo the youth voters towards Raila’s presidential bid.

Bahati will face the incumbent Anthony Oluoch who vying under the ODM party ticket among other aspirants.
