At least 3, 000 of the 7, 032 new voters registered in Kanduyi Constituency during the second phase of Mass Voter Registration were transfers from other constituencies.

Constituency Director of Voter Registration Amos Nyongesa confirmed the figures, even as he refuted claims that politicians had brought in supporters from other places.

“It is encouraging that we realized more than 3, 000 voters who transferred their votes to the constituency,” he noted.

Mr Nyongesa decried low voter registration in the constituency and in the county following the closure of the mass voter registration exercise on February 6.

“We anticipated registering around 15, 000 new voters but after 21 days we have only managed to register 7, 032 voters,” he he said.

“We deployed 28 BVR machines which were positioned across the constituency in 16 registration centers manned by 56 clerks,” he continued.

He noted that just like the first phase of voter registration with 9, 000 new voters, the second phase was as well a disappointment.

Bungoma County had targeted more than 186, 000 new voters but only managed a paltry 16 per cent as at the end of the exercise.

“We however urge new voters who haven’t registered to visit our faces for in-house registration which we will close on February 28, 2022,” he said.
