Private hospitals have now got into an agreement with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to continue offering medical services to patients with the cover.

This came after several consultative meetings between the officials from the Ministry of Health, NHIF and stakeholders from the private sector.

In a statement issued by the NHIF CEO Peter Kamunyo, the Fund had reached a consensus to provide services to the largeer population that depends on them after the extension by the private hospitals contract until July.

“During this period the Fund shall undertake bi-weekly stake holder engagements on the benefit package for a period of two months to end on 31st March 2022,” said Kamunyo.

He further added the need for parliament to make amendments in the NHIF (Amendment) Act NO.122 of 2022 noting that the process only requires a parliamentary sitting for approval.

This came after private hospitals had earlier announced that they would not offer services to patients who depend on the Fund beginning February this year.

The new contracts will take effect from July 1, with new engagements that would see the standardization of the repayment plans.
