Deputy President William Ruto has called out on his political rivals to renounce violence ahead of August 9, polls.
Speaking at his Karen residence where he met his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party parliamentarians, Ruto challenged all the presidential candidates to make firm their stand as shreds of violence are reported in political rallies.
“We want to challenge every presidential candidate to clearly, firmly and unequivocally renounce violence. People should not try to explain instances of violence perpetrated under their watch,” said Ruto.
The Deputy President said that his party takes national security as a priority and they will not engage in violence related actions.
“We are making commitment to the people of Kenya that UDA members will not engage in violence and we expect the same from other parties and every candidate,” he added.
During the UDA parliamentary meeting, Ruto said that the partnership arrived between UDA, ANC and Ford Kenya is the best coalition as he seeks the countries top seat.
With their main concern being a peaceful general election, they also called upon the judicial system to deliver in the constitutional mandate.
“Our criminal justice system must perform it’s duty of protecting the freedom of the citizens and effectively dealing with the tendencies during the campaign period,” said Ruto.
