Located in Migori County in western part of Kenya, River Migori is known for its crocodile infestation. However, towards its mouth in Lake Victoria, the river is rich in sand which is crucial in the construction industry. These women at Wuoth Ogik have been venturing into the river to harvest the sand despite past incidents of people mauled by crocodiles. Here these elderly women were ready either to lose limbs or die searching for food as they immersed themselves in chest deep flowing river to harvest sand to earn a living. Poverty has pushed Kenyans to daring situations where they do not even mind about their own safety.
