Nyong’o to host Rigathi Gachagua, again

In less than four months, Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o will be hosting Deputy Governor Rigathi Gachagua.

In September last year, Nyong’o played host to the DP who presided over the 94th edition of the Kenya Music Festival in Kisumu.

This time round, Nyong’o will be hosting Gachagua who will be presiding over the opening of the 9th edition of the annual Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA).

We wish to thank the National Executive Council of the Association for allowing us  to host this very important event that plays  a very important role in the calendar of the devolved units, besides  the Devolution conference

Nyong’o is the patron of KICOSCA which brings together employees from all the 47 counties.

This year’s games begin on January 16, at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, with an opening ceremony presided over by Mr Gachagua, and Nyong’o.

8, 000 guests

On Thursday, Nyong’o said at least 8, 000 participants are expected at the event, with 13 disciplines lined up.

Thirteen venues are set to host the games, among them; The Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo, The Moi stadium, the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports center, the Kisumu National Polytechnic, Kassam Secondary School, Lions High School and Kisumu School.

Other are; Kisumu Day Secondary school, the Aga Khan Hall, Mama Grace Onyango Social Hall, the Rotary Training Center, Cosmopolitan Club and the Nyanza Golf Club.

“We wish to thank the National Executive Council of the Association for allowing us  to host this very important event that plays  a very important role in the calendar of the devolved units, besides  the Devolution conference,” said Nyong’o.

The Governor who addressed the press in regards with the preparations ahead of the event said it was all systems go.

“With close consultation with the National Executive Committee and the competing counties, we have identified, booked and prepared various hotels and learning institutions that will be accommodating the delegates,” he said.

Nyong’o was flanked by his deputy Dr Mathews Owili, County Sports Executive Beatrice Odongo, County Commissioner Josephine Ouko, and County Secretary John Ouma.

Kicosca was founded in 2013 at the onset of Devolution, transitioning from the previously Kenya Inter-Municipalities Sports and Cultural Association- KIMSCA.

Nyong’o said the purpose of the games is to give an opportunity to   employees from the 47 County Governments to exhibit their sporting talents and to interact and learn from each other’s cultural orientations.

“It also enables the staff to benchmark and have a health break to help drive productivities,” he said.

Since its inception, Kicosca games have been hosted in the following counties; Nairobi, Nakuru, Uashin Gishu, Kiambu, Machakos, Kisii, Kericho and Embu.

Nyong’o called on Kisumu residents to exploit the opportunity for economic good, as the visiting participants come with great opportunities.

“I want to appeal to small and medium scale traders to seize this opportuning to provide services to the guests in an organized manner,” he said.
