EAC observers warn against misinformation on social media as Kenyans await presidential results

The East African Community observer mission has noted use of hate speech and misinformation by social media users as Kenyans await for the election results.

The mission led by former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete stated that the mission noted social media misuse among the various citizens.

The mission noted that there were problems associated with social media particularly regarding to disinformation misinformation and hate speech

The mission however commended various stake holders for their efforts to address these challenges.

The mainstream media was also appreciated on their role in voter education and transparent election process coverage.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) also gained credit for so far upholding transparency, preparedness and management of the electoral process.

It however stated that more could be done to improve the process.
