The Government has officially declared 9th August, 2022, a public holiday.

The decision comes in line with the upcoming elections set for the same date.

Through a gazette notice dated 29th July, Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i said that the move is to allow the people of Kenya the opportunity to fully participate in the general elections.

“Declares Tuesday, 9th August, 2022, as a  public holiday to afford the people of Kenya the opportunity to participate  in the 2022 general elections of Members of Parliament, Members of County Assemblies and County Governors,” read the notice in part.

With only four days to the polls, various Kenyans have been travelling up country to participate in the elections.

The constitution however gives IEBC up to 15th August to announce the presidential results.
