Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) now says the voter register will be published on June 20.

In a press release by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, the extension follows a decision to engage KPMG in the audit process.

Earlier IEBC had settled on June 9th, 2022 for the publication of the register after a 30 day verification period.

The commission is scheduled to receive the final audit report by KPMG by June 16, 2022 and there will be a stakeholder engagement on the final registering of voters on June 17, 2022.

A preliminary audit report by KPMG later issued the revealed 246,465 deceased voters, 481,711 duplicate records and 226,143 voters registered with IDs that don’t validly belong to them.

164,269 people were registered with voter records with invalid identification documents.

To address the findings of the audit the commission opted to push the voter register’s publishing deadline by 12 days.

“Due to the implementation of these preliminary audit findings on the register, the commission has decided to address the findings prior to certifying the register for publication on or before June 20, 2022,” read the statement.

It went ahead to state, “The commission is scheduled to receive the final audit report by KPMG by June 16, 2022 and there will be a stakeholder engagement on the final registering of voters on June 17, 2022.”
