ANC, DP candidates among 11 presidential aspirants IEBC disqualified

Eleven presidential candidates have been disqualified by IEBC barely two months before the polls.

According the electoral body, the aspirants failed to present their running mates before the deadline.

ANC party and the Democratic Party were among the disqualified as well as 9 other independent candidates who failed to name their running mates.

Now, 43 candidates will be in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Signatures

All the candidates will be required to submit at least 2,000 signatures from across 24 counties endorsing their candidature.

“Aspirants are expected to comply with the law. In regard to submission of signatures,” said IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

He went ahead to state, “by 25th, a report will be generated to ensure the process is complete and this period cannot be extended given the strict timelines we have.”

Presidential aspirants will be cleared from May 29th to June 6th.
