Orthodox church calls for peace ahead of polls

Eldoret and Mt Kenya Orthodox Dioceses Bishop Neofitos Kongai has urged leaders to preach peace ahead of the August polls.

Speaking during the Easter celebrations in Nandi on April 22nd, Kongai called on leaders to embrace unity.

On behalf of all Orthodox Churches and all christians, we want to request all the leaders to embrace unity and peace and treat each other like a brother and sister,

He further urged leaders to accept defeat honourably and work with the chosen leaders.

“On behalf of all Orthodox Churches and all christians, we want to request all the leaders to embrace unity and peace and treat each other like a brother and sister,” said Kongai.

The church also joined the nation in mourning former President Mwai Kibaki as they condoled with the family and friends.

Kongai praised Kibaki as a leader who transformed politics, development and steered the country’s economy.
