The Information and Communication Authority in collaboration with Kenya Power, Ministry of Energy and Communication Authority has rolled out a plan to connect all public schools with internet through Kenya Power transmission lines.
The project which aims at boosting learning and teaching in all public institutions targets the over 22,000 schools that Kenya Power has so far connected with power.
Using the same infrastructure, the ICT Authority targets internet penetration to all the public learning institutions.
According to the authority, the project will take two years and the internet will be fully funded by the government through the Kenya Education Cloud.
“We estimate within two years we will have completed programme. The internet that comes to your school already purchased by the government will be through the Kenya Education Cloud to ensure all the content is properly vetted,” said ICT Authority Acting Director of Programmes and Standards Thomas Odhiambo.
The authority said that the project will also capture the villages touching close to 10 million households as part of the digitization programme.
