Kisumu’s Obunga FC is Nyanza’s Chapa Dimba 2023 Champions

Safaricom Chapa Dimba 2023 for Nyanza Region has come to  an end with Kisumu County’s Obunga FC crowned champions in men’s category.

Plateau Queens, another team from Kisumu also won the women’s category.

Obunga FC who dominated the match against Awendo Academy from Migori County emerged as the winners after a 2-1  thrilling display.

Plateau Queens on the other hand thrashed Victoria Sports Academy one nil to emerge the winners in the category.

Both Obunga FC and Plateu Queens were each awarded a cash price of 250,000.

The two teams will represent Nyanza region in the Safaricom Chapa Ndimba Nationals in March 2024.

George Ogutu from Obunga FC emerged as the player of the tournament and was awarded Sh30, 000.

The grassroots games were played from the ward level. The winners from each ward  then progressed to the sub-county level.

The Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournamet aims to provide a structural  platform for scouts and coaches to tap into new talents and build feeder systems for the Kenyan football leagues across the country.

The community engagements at the tournament also involved free Medical Camp, free Digital and Financial Literacy training and Safaricom Engineering Community Campus Tours engagement.
