National Cereals and Produce Board has said that they will not buy maize from farmers who are hoarding their produce.

The board’s director James Mureu said that they lack maize because farmers are hoarding their produce with hopes of a higher profit.

“NCPB and millers will not buy maize from farmers who have been hoarding maize because they are waiting for the right price,” said Mureu.

“As NCPB, we don’t have the maize because many farmers are hoarding it to sell at a higher price,” he furthered.

GMO Maize

The report comes days after leaders from the North Rift region protested over the importation of GMO maize demanding an immediate halt.

The legislators demanded a halt into the alleged importation until local farmers complete their harvesting.
