Opening ceremonies are a common part of major sporting events.
Before the first match at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, an opening ceremony will signal the official start of the tournament.
The opening ceremony will take place on 20th November at Al Bayt Stadium.
The change ensures the continuity of a long-standing tradition of marking the start of the FIFA World Cup with an opening ceremony on the occasion of the first match featuring either the hosts or the defending champions

The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 people and was only opened in November 2021.
This is also the venue for the first game of the World Cup which will see Qatar and Ecuador kick off the tournament.
The fixture was originally scheduled to take place on November 21st but was shifted by organisers.
“The change ensures the continuity of a long-standing tradition of marking the start of the FIFA World Cup with an opening ceremony on the occasion of the first match featuring either the hosts or the defending champions,” read a statement from FIFA.

FIFA are yet to confirm who will be performing at the 2022 World Cup opening ceremony.
However according to various reports several artists have been fronted to perform at the event.
Shakira, who famously performed at previous opening ceremonies, will be among the entertainers.
Jungkook, one of the members of BTS, is also set to perform based on a tweet from the South Korean band.
Uganda’s famous slum children dance group, Gheto kids have also confirmed with Lake Region Bulletin that they will be performing at the ceremony.
Other possible performers that have been mentioned include: Black Eyed Peas, J Balvin, Nora Fatehi and Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie.
