Veteran journalist Leonard Mbotela sworn in as a member of National Heroes Council

Veteran media personality Leonard Mambo Mbotela has been sworn in as a member of National Heroes Council.

Mbotela was sworn in on Monday at the Supreme Court in a function overseen by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

“Witnessed the swearing of Mbotela as a member of National Heroes Council following his appointment,” Koome tweeted.

The 82-year-old celebrated journalist will serve as a member for a period of three years.

Section 4 (3) of the Kenya Heroes Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage appoints Leonard Mambo Mbotela as a member of the National Heroes Council, for a period of three years with effect from the 5th August, 2022

The appointment

He was appointed by the outgoing Sports and Culture CS Amina Mohammed.

“Section 4 (3) of the Kenya Heroes Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage appoints Leonard Mambo Mbotela as a member of the National Heroes Council, for a period of three years with effect from the 5th August, 2022, ” read the Gazette notice.

The council is mandated to identify, select and honour national heroes.

Koome further said the post was identified to keep the culture and practice of appreciating the heroic acts.

Mbotela expressed gratitude at the opportunity to serve the country in his new role saying his wealth of experience made him land the appointment.
