Three dead as van carrying teachers to Kisumu music fete crashes

A teacher attending the ongoing National Music Festivals in Kisumu was among the three people who died in a fatal road accident at Luanda.

Police reports indicated that the nissan matatu carrying teachers was moving from Kisumu to Ahero, when it had a head on collusion with an oncoming pick-up.

The male teacher, the pick-up driver and another passenger died, while nine other people were admitted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).

According to reports from JOOTRH, the teacher and the driver of the pick up died on spot while the third victim died on arrival at the hospital.

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o termed the deaths as a huge loss, given that the victims were in the county for the big event.

“I wish to take this earliest opportunity to send heartfelt condolences to the families and colleagues of those killed in the accident and wish quick recovery to the injured who are recuperating in hospital,” Nyong’o said.

He also appealed to motorists to take great care while using public roads to avoid accidents.
