Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o will use county staff as poll agents on August 9.

This has been announced by outgoing Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro.

Speaking during the issuance of appointment letters to 665 newly hired Early Childhood Education (ECD) teachers, Oraro said it was in order for the county workers to ‘scratch the Governor’s back’ as the Governor has done the same to them.

“You want the Governor to look for agents to be at the polling stations?” posed Oraro.

It is not you alone. You must talk to your friends, family members and the children you are teaching to go and talk to their parents, that come August 9, kura kwa Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o,

“You want the Governor to look for money to pay agents at the polling stations?” he went on amid cheers from the teachers.

“Governor, you already have your agents here, alongside other workers,” he said as he turned to the Governor who was presiding over the event.

The event took place Friday, June 3, at the County Public Service Board premises.

Kisumu County Government has over 4, 000 workers.

Oraro told the teachers, and other county workers to mobilize votes for the Governor who is seeking re-election.

Scratch my back, I scratch yours

“It is not you alone. You must talk to your friends, family members and the children you are teaching to go and talk to their parents, that come August 9, kura kwa Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o,” he said.

He said the Governor had done a lot to the county workers and the people of Kisumu, hence deserves a second term.

I want to request you on behalf of the Governor that you be his ambassadors

Oraro

“It is scratch my back I scratch your back, so you must scratch the Governor’s back,” said Oraro.

“I want to request you on behalf of the Governor that you be his ambassadors,” he added.

The 665 ECD teachers received appointment letters for permanent and pensionable terms after serving on contract since 2015.

Oraro noted that the Governor’s move was approved by the assembly, and that the county government will give priority to workers’ welfare in this financial year.

“But what he has done to you is not because of the votes, it is because it is your right,” he noted.
