President Uhuru Kenyatta has accused his Deputy William Ruto of abandoning him.

Kenyatta who spoke during the May 1, Labour Day celebrations said Ruto deserted him when he needed the DP most.

He said it was Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who came to his rescue.

Instead of coming with proposals on how to address the issues, you are in the markets hurling insults.

Kenyatta accused Ruto and his irk of ever criticizing him instead of working with him to provide solutions to issues facing Kenyans.

“Some people move around inciting Kenyans, telling them ‘the cost of living has gone up, ask Uhuru’. Is it Uhuru who caused the war in Ukraine?” posed Kenyatta.

He added: “Instead of coming with proposals on how to address the issues, you are in the markets hurling insults.”

“You could have resigned so that I get another person to help me. Let us speak the truth. Where are you when I need you most?” he said.

“That is why I am grateful to that mzee (Raila Odinga). He abandoned his issues and came to my rescue. He knew the problems we were facing were not our making,” Kenyatta added.

The President distanced himself from the high cost of living, terming it a global problem which no one had control of.

“Just as we were coming out of covid-19 which had ravaged the economy, then a war (Ukraine-Russia) erupted,” said Kenyatta.

Kenyatta asked Kenyans to vote wisely on August 9, to save themselves from empty promises peddled by politicians not providing solutions.

Kenyatta said the entire world is still reeling from the impacts of Covid-19, and the war in Ukraine.

He said the government has come to the rescue of Kenyans through subsidies on critical commodities to cushion them.

“Let us be honest. The entire world is grieving and it requires leaders to sit down and provide solutions,” he said.
