Siaya Senator James Orengo is the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) gubernatorial candidate for the counties top seat in the August polls.

The party announced that it will hold its primaries for the parliamentary seats, members of county assembly and the woman representative position in the county on April 13th.

The move to settle on Orengo has sparked several reactions with aspirants expressing their disappointments with the party.

George Mugoye who was battling for the ODM gubernatorial ticket claimed to have paid fees to contest for the primaries.

“Why did they allow us to pay nomination fees and campaign throughout Siaya when they knew they would give the ticket to one of us? This is totally unfair,” said Mugoye.

Bella Akinyi who was also eyeing the seat withdrew from the race terming the nominations as unfair and not brave enough.

“They were not brave enough. They feared and went behind the scenes to nominate their choice,” said Akinyi.

Orengo will now face off former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo of UDM in the journey to replace Governor Rasanga.

He will now join Gladys Wanga of Homabay and Paul Otuoma of Busia as some of the ODM aspirants.
