Kisumu County ODM officials have reiterated that they are impartial ahead of party primaries next month.

The officials however claim that their support for Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s second term is ‘just a suggestion’.

Addressing the press at the County Azimio Centre on Tuesday, the officials said they do not conduct party nominations, and that the final word lies with that party election board.

“We are impartial. That (supporting Nyong’o) is our suggestion. Nomination is yet to be done. We don’t do nominations in Kisumu. Nominations are done by the National Elections Board,” said County Coordinator Prof Ayiecho Olweny.

“I can give my wish, and if my wish does not carry the day then whoever wins carry the day,” added Olweny.

The former Muhoroni Member of Parliament will be seeking to carry the party’s Senatorial flag during the August 9, general election.

He has however openly declared his support for Governor Nyong’o’s re-election.

Olweny was accompanied at the press conference by Kisumu Central Sub County ODM Chairman Seth Ochieng who has also supported the Governor’s re-election.

Nyong’o will be facing former East African Chief Administrative Secretary Ken Obura in the quest for the ODM ticket.
