Save us from rogue politicians, Migori riders cry out

Bodaboda riders in Migori are crying out for help following seeds of division sowed among them by area politicians.

The riders have been up in arms against one another, following political factions which have emerged amongst them.

Michael Onditi, one of the leaders of the bodaboda operators claim that politicians have infiltrated the once peaceful groupings and incited them against one another.

The riders now want the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to investigate the politicians and take action.

They expressed fears that should the matter not be handled quickly, it may escalate beyond elections.

Violence

Onditi mentioned Namba stage in Suna West, which has been turned into a battle ground, with factions of the riders baying for the blood of each other.

“There are some politicians who have been giving handouts to specific groups of bodaboda operators to create friction between us. We request them to stop,” said Onditi.

Felix Otieno, the head of Maendeleo Bodaboda Sacco said the existence of different fractions among the riders makes it easy for the politicians to sway their members into chaos.

He said a majority of the riders who do not belong to any Sacco have been the most affected, as politicians easily take advantage of them, as they do not abide to any rules.
