Government introduces Sh2.2 million Mazingira Award for environmentalists

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday launched an award to recognize environmental activists.

The accolade christened Mazingira Award will be awarded to person’s and institutions leading the journey towards environmental sustainability. 

The Award

Speaking during the official opening of the UNEP 50th anniversary celebrations, the head of state noted that the winner will be awarded Sh2.2 million.

Uhuru further noted that the first winner  will be awarded on 1st June.

During the event,President Kenyatta also said that the government will provide free land for United Nations Humanitarian and Logistics Hubs. 

The event is set to go on for the next two days.
