Presidential candidate in the forthcoming August 9, polls Reuben Kigame now wants protection by the state.

Kigame who spoke during an interview in a local television station claimed he is more vulnerable and needed to be protected compared to other presidential candidates.

The calls come following reports by the gospel musician that his life has been threatened by unknown people.

According to Mr Kigame who lives with visual impairment, said such threats have led to extra-judicial killings, and should not be taken lightly.

“I got a threat through an audio message, in my WhatsApp that if I wanted peace, I needed to forget about presidency,” said Kigame.

He claimed that the two-minutes and 20 seconds audio sent at 3.32am suggested that presidency belonged to a particular class, and that he should keep off.

Kigame said he has since recorded statement with the Director of Criminal Investigation, and he is hoping that those behind the threats will be apprehended.

He said the security agencies had scrutinized his phone, and promised to get deep into the matter.

“Mine is to hope that beyond the investigations, the Presidential candidates can be accorded the kind of security that they need, and for me, probably more than others, I consider myself pretty vulnerable, and if I could have that a bit early, I would really be grateful,” he said.
