Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has cautioned school heads against sending candidates away for fees.

Magoha was speaking early Saturday while commissioning 11 CBC classrooms at Bungoma DEB Primary School in Bungoma County.

“Sending a candidate home for fees now is an offense that the law enforcers should take up because that is equal to denying these learners their right to education,” he stated.

He urged principals to negotiate with parents so that together they can develop a plan to settle any arrears, as they will be liable for arrest should they send the children home.

“Basic education is free but if there are charges such as food then it is the responsibility of the teacher to negotiate with the parent and ensure such fees are settled without disturbing the learner,” he noted.

The CS was accompanied by Bungoma Governor Wickliffe Wangamati and Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.

Eight of the new classrooms have been funded by the NG-CDF while three have been funded by the Ministry of Education.

“The classrooms we are launching today are part of the national target of establishing more than 10,000 classrooms in preparation for the Junior Secondary level under the new model,” he explained.

Speaking during the commissioning event, the Governor and the MP applauded the efforts of the Ministry in ensuring there is a successful implementation of the new teaching and learning approach.

The CS also re-assured stakeholders of the government’s devotion to the actualization of CBC.

  1. I think candidates should be doing revision in school instead of going home each time parents and guardians are also suffering outside here, don’t hasten the process of depression suffering
