Kisumu County Assembly will finally have an ultramodern structure to host its chambers and offices.

The MCAs have been for the past ten years using old and congested former County Council chambers to transact business.

Deputy Governor Mathews Owili on Thursday February 3, presided over the groundbreaking for the construction of the structure in Milimani Estate.

With the works on the four-floor assembly is estimated to cost Sh500 million, already Sh200 million has been disbursed for the commencement of the works.

The new assembly building will be able to host 64 members together with all assembly employees.

The ground floor will host the parking lot and a commercial restaurant while the first and second floors will contain the assembly offices.

The assembly chambers will be at the third floor, while the fourth floor will contain a health and fitness centre.

Speaker Elisha Oraro said the project was supposed to commence in 2014 but it delayed due to lack of land, as well as exaggerated cost of the quotation for the project.

“Even though we have given ourselves up to 2024 to have the works done, we are optimistic that working on a critical path, the assembly should be up and complete by 2023,” said Oraro.

Dr Owili said the project will be prioritized in the budget for the next financial year to enable it be completed on time.

“This project should be a priority in the budget to ensure that it is complete as fast as possible,” said Hon. Owili.
