Love your gay children, Pope advises parents

Head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis has advised parents not to condemn their children for being gay.

Speaking on Wednesday, January 26, the Pope called on parents not to see sexual orientation in their children, and instead accompany them in their journey.

“Parents should not hide behind an attitude of condemnation. Never condemn your children,” said the Pope.

The Pope had previously showed his support for the gay community when he sought for the legalization of the civil union law for same sex couples in 2020.

He termed people from the LGBTQ community as children of God who have the right to be in a family.

“You cannot kick someone out of a family, nor make their life miserable for this. What we have is a civil union law; that way we are legally covered,” he furthered.

The Pope’s remarks sparked mixed reaction online with some Kenyans attacking the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George  Magoha who directed that gay students to be banned from boarding schools.

“CS Magoha is a bigot and a Neanderthal. To bar gay children from boarding schools is unconstitutional, discriminatory and inhuman. We must love all our kids no matter their sexuality,” argued Prof Makau Mutua.
