Nyong’o calls for speedy probe into Jua Kali fire incident

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o now wants investigations expedited into Friday night’s Jua Kali fire.

The fire razed stalls, vehicles and spare part shops in the leaving the owners counting loses worth millions.

Through a press statement on Saturday, Nyong’o said he has constituted a team to look into the extent of the damage and come up with necessary precautions within 48 hours.

“In view of this incident, I have constituted a team to look into the extent of the damage and losses, and compile a report in the next 48 hours,” read the notice in part.

The team will be chaired by the City Manager Abala Wanga.

While sympathizing with the artisans, the Governor also commended the county government team and other stakeholders who ensured the fire was extinguished before spreading to other parts.

“I wish to commend the County Secretary and the City Manager who took prompt action to ensure that the fire was extinguished and Kibos Sugar Industries for sending a backup fire engine to join in fighting the fire,” he said.

Police Report

Police reports indicated that there were no casualties in the incident.

Kisumu Central Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Maina said four vehicles were razed down.

“We can’t state with certainty the total value of property destroyed in the fire. We have only confirmed four cars were razed,” he said.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
