Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has dismissed claims that his government is more focused on development within towns while abandoning the rural areas.

Speaking during a tour of the Kisumu County Referral Hospital on Tuesday, Nyong’o termed the claims as misplaced and misleading to the people.

He spoke when he inspected ongoing projects at Kisumu County Hospital, where he launched and dispatched medical equipment worth Sh15 million to improve safe motherhood in the primary level facilities in the Sub-Counties.

“The misplaced narrative by politicians that my government is over-focusing on city development is baseless,” Nyong’o said.

The Governor who is defending his seat in the coming August election said Kisumu City has over 500, 000 people residing in it, with almost twice the number accessing the city on a daily basis, hence must be given deserved attention.

He however added that his government has already planned projects on health, infrastructure, water provision and agriculture in the sub-counties which he will open soon.

He pointed out that the construction of theatres at Gita Sub-County Hospital in Kisumu East, Chula Imbo Sub-County Hospital in Kisumu West and Seme Sub-County Hospital in Kombewa are among projects which are near completion and will be opened soon.
