Here is what will happen during the pre-trial conference at the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has set the date and time for the pre-trial conference for the presidential election petition.

According to a notice issued on Monday, August 29th by Supreme Court Registrar, Letizia Wachira, the conference is scheduled to kick off at 11am on Tuesday, August 30th at the Milimani Law Courts Ceremonial Hall.

What will happen

During the conference, the judges will call upon the nine petitioners to identify the facts that are agreed upon or are in dispute on the basis of a voluntary agreement.

The nine petitioners include Azimio La Umoja coalition, John Njoroge, Daniel Ngari, Juliah Nyokabi, Khelef Khalifa, Okiya Omtatah, Youth Advocacy Africa and Reuben Kigame.

All the petitioners and their respondents are expected to participate in the pre-trial conference.

Ground rules

The judges led by Chief Justice Martha Koome will further give directions to on the number of advocates it will allow on behalf of each party.

The court will then allocate time to each party to address the court during the hearing as well as the seating positions of the legal team.

The seven-judge bench may also approve or reject requests by the interested parties to be enjoined in the case and the extent of contributions they will be allowed to make.

After the pre-trial conference The Supreme Court is then required to hear the election dispute and proceed to deliver a judgement within 14 days of the filing of the petition.

The Supreme Court is expected to give a ruling on or before Monday, September 5th, 2022.
